Children in need of food are of particular importance to Lake Cares. A 2020 report from Second Harvest Food Bank demonstrates that 1 in 3 children in Lake County suffer from food insecurity. School children generally look forward to weekends off but many are faced with no food because there is no weekend school lunch program. Lake Cares created a program addressing that problem. In 2016, Lakes Cares initiated the Weekend Children’s Feeding Program. That year 6,400 meals were provided to 40 children in need over the 10-month school year. The Weekend Children’s Feeding Program provides two breakfasts, two lunches, plus fruit, snacks and drinks each week at a cost of $6.25 per child per weekend. This school year, Lake Cares is serving 240 children a total of 38,400 meals. Your donation will help us continue this much needed program
