Children’s Feeding Program

Children in need of food are of particular importance to Lake Cares.

1 in 3 children in Lake County suffer from food insecurity, according to a 2020 report from Second Harvest Food Bank.

School children generally look forward to weekends off but many are faced with no food because there is no weekend school lunch program.

Lake Cares created a program addressing that problem. In 2016, Lakes Cares initiated the Weekend Children’s Feeding Program. That year 6,400 meals were provided to 40 children in need over the 10-month school year. The Weekend Children’s Feeding Program provides two breakfasts, two lunches, plus fruit, snacks and drinks each week.
