Karen is one of 12 women participating in the fundraiser that was inspired by the 2008 best-selling book “The Necklace,” which chronicled how a jewelry-sharing journey changed the lives of 13 women. Each woman wears the necklace, dubbed “Bella Diamante,” for one month raising funds and awareness throughout Lake County. The pantry is selling 1,000 raffle ticket at $50 per ticket.

In the spring of 2019 at the 10th Anniversary Gala at Lake Receptions in Mount Dora the winner will take home the show-stopping necklace appraised at more than $20,000. Second prize is $5,000 and third prize is $2,500.
“Joining this group of amazing women gave me the opportunity to give back to an organization that I strongly believe in,” says Karen.

“The work Irene O’Malley and her team take on to feed those in need in our community is amazing.”

No stranger to volunteer work, Karen says “the joy of being unselfish is something I find truly rewarding. Lake Cares is a truly treasured part of Mount Dora - the assistance they give to so many countywide is admirable.”

Her intrinsic compass is guided by altruism, principled living, and simple, honest expressions of love. Those same principles propel Lake Cares Food Pantry to fulfill its mission every day. You could call Karen and Lake Cares a perfect match.
Karen describes her time with “Bella” as lovely: “I was able to wear the beautiful necklace and let others know about Lake Cares.”

As her journey with Bella’s ended, Karen hoped the next recipient enjoyed wearing such a beautiful piece of jewelry as much as she did: “I hope she feels like I did - a princess who represented Lake Cares.”
